The suspension of operations by MYAirline has impacted approximately 125,000 passengers who had purchased air tickets worth a total of RM20mil, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Loke stated that MYAirline’s actions were irresponsible as neither the Transport Ministry nor the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) had been informed.
“MYAirline simply vanished. They ceased operations, flights were not operated, and their employees were also absent from the airport, leaving passengers completely bewildered,” said Loke.
“This behavior is highly irresponsible, and we will pursue this matter. They are obligated to refund all affected passengers,” he added during a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Oct 12).
This development comes after the low-cost carrier, MYAirline, announced the suspension of its operations as of Thursday until further notice due to significant financial pressures.
“The need to suspend operations has arisen due to ongoing shareholder restructuring and recapitalization of the airline,” stated MYAirline in a Facebook post.
More updates will be provided.
