A Myanmar laborer has been charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur for the murder of a senior citizen in Taman OUG last month.

Shofi Husson Fozo Rahman, 26, is accused of killing 80-year-old fruit seller Ah Kau @ Yow Chow Chong on September 26 at 6:30 PM.

Rahman nodded in acknowledgement when the charge was read before Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed.

Since it is a murder case, no plea was recorded from the accused as it falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The charge against Rahman, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum sentence of death or 40 years’ imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 whippings if found guilty.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal is handling the case, while the accused is currently unrepresented.

The court has scheduled November 24 for the next mention of the case, during which the post-mortem report will be obtained.

According to reports, the 80-year-old fruit seller died as a result of stab wounds on his body and face, and a suspect was apprehended at the crime scene.
