PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The Immigration Department (JIM) arrested a Myanmar national who earned RM360,000 annually by selling forged documents on July 13. Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the suspect was apprehended in Kuala Lumpur while attempting to deliver fake Temporary Work Visit Passes (PLKS) to clients.
The arrest occurred at Dataran Merdeka by a team from JIM’s Intelligence and Special Operations Division. Upon inspecting the suspect’s United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) card, the team discovered counterfeit documents including two PLKS stickers and a fake Myanmar passport.
In addition, the team found RM26,000 in cash in a Honda CRV believed to belong to the suspect. Ruslin made the announcement during the Immigration Department’s 2023 Meet the Client’s Day (HBPJIM) programme in Putrajaya.
Ruslin stated that the operations team was led to a residence in Sentul suspected of being the base of the counterfeit operation. There, they seized a computer used for forging documents, as well as 26 UNHCR cards, two Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) cards, eight Myanmar passports, one Myanmar international driving licence, and RM1,500 in cash.
According to initial investigations, the suspect has been running the counterfeit service since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in 2020. He targeted Myanmar and Bangladeshi citizens facing travel document issues. The suspect promoted his service through Whatsapp, offering a range of forged documents such as passports, PLKS, UNHCR cards, CIDB cards, marriage certificates, and driving licenses.
“The estimated service fee he charged was between RM200 and RM1,000,” said Ruslin.
The suspect is currently detained at the Putrajaya Immigration Detention Centre for a 14-day investigation period. – Bernama
