KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak seeks to nullify his RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial at the High Court, as well as requesting to be discharged and acquitted of all 25 charges in the trial. This was informed by his lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah to presiding judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Monday (Aug 14).
Muhammad Shafee stated that he was instructed to make the application due to the recent revelation of Justice Sequerah’s past association with former 1MDB general counsel Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, who is currently under investigation. On July 26, Justice Sequerah acknowledged that he and Loo were once colleagues at a law firm. Loo is believed to be an associate of fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low.
The trial continues, with former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz taking the stand for examination-in-chief.
