SHAH ALAM: The president of the National Professors Council (MPN) Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Raduan Che Ros was among two academics charged with criminal breach of trust at the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (Aug 28).
Dr Raduan and Prof Datuk Dr Kefli Mahbol both claimed trial to misappropriating RM271,000 of the council’s funds last year and this year.
Dr Raduan, 64, faced two charges in his capacity as MPN president of misappropriating RM71,000 and channelling it into Dr Kefli’s bank account.
Dr Raduan was also slapped with five other charges in his capacity as MPN Global Reach Sdn Bhd director for misappropriating RM200,000 which was the initial payment for the UKMShape-MPN Global Reach Sdn programme.
The money was also allegedly channelled into Dr Kefli’s account.
He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, whipping and fine.
Dr Kefli, who was Global Reach Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, also faced seven charges for conspiring with Dr Raduan to misappropriating the funds.
He was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code, which was read together with Section 409 of the same Code.
The charges were levelled separately against both the professors before judge Datuk Anita Harun.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) DPP Law Chin How prosecuted whilst counsel Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz appeared for both the professors.
Anita set bail at RM40,000 for each of the accused with one surety each and ordered them to report to the MACC office during the first week of every month.
She also set Oct 23 for case mention.
