A Royal Malaysian Navy officer and a company owner are being detained for five days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation of the “procurement cartel” case, as ordered by Senior Assistant Registrar Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar at a Magistrate’s Court in Johor Baru on Wednesday (Feb 14).
The suspects, aged 42 and 55, were seen arriving at the Johor Baru Court Complex with their hands in cuffs, wearing orange lock-up T-shirts at about 9am.
On Tuesday (Feb 13), the MACC had detained the two suspects for questioning in relation to the “procurement cartel” case.
According to a source, the two men were arrested at the Johor Baru MACC office at 4pm on Tuesday to aid with the ongoing investigation.
Earlier, the MACC had arrested three men, aged 28 to 47, believed to be the masterminds of the procurement cartel involving construction work worth more than RM9mil at a Navy camp in the state.
The three men were arrested by the Johor MACC at 6pm on Thursday (Jan 18) after they were believed to be the masterminds of the cartel involving 13 supplier companies that manage construction work at the camp.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrests were to enable an investigation under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for using false documents with the intention to deceive.
