SEREMBAN: Police are investigating a man’s claims that he was punched by an individual who holds a prominent position in the Undang Rembau court.
Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the victim filed a report on July 4.
“The man claimed that an individual, who is among the Orang Besar Undang Luak Rembau, punched him during a ceremony at the Balai Undang.
“The victim sought outpatient treatment at the Rembau Hospital after the incident,” he said.
DCP Ahmad Dzaffir said police have recorded statements from 17 witnesses as part of its probe under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Offenders can be jailed up to one year, or fined up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.
The Undang of Rembau Datuk Muhamad Sharip Othman passed away on May 15, 2024, and the post is still vacant.
The Undang of Rembau is one of the four influential chieftains in the state.
The other three are the Undang of Sungei Ujong, Undang of Jelebu and Undang of Johol.
The four, among others, act as advisors to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
These four Undang are powerful because of their responsibilities, which include selecting the state’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
