GUA MUSANG: The Barisan Nasional candidate for the Nenggiri by-election, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, is not a new face who has only recently started engaging with residents, said Umno supreme council member Ahmad Maslan.

He said the Kelantan Umno Youth chief, commonly known as Awie, has developed a good rapport with constituents as he previously worked with the former Nenggiri assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusoff for more than 10 years, increasing the party’s confidence in regaining the seat.

“Ab Aziz said while he was serving as the Nenggiri assemblyman, Awie worked with him and covered all areas in Nenggiri,” he told reporters at the media centre for the by-election in Kampung Sungai Asap here on Tuesday (Aug 6).

The by-election, scheduled on Aug 17, is a straight fight between Mohd Azmawi Fikri, representing the unity government, and PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat vacant on June 19 because its assemblyman, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, had ceased to be a member of Bersatu on June 13. – Bernama
