KUALA LUMPUR: The newly appointed Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar says that good governance will be one of his key agendas in managing the country’s public sector.

He said this vision supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to strengthen governance.

“As emphasised by the Prime Minister, good governance is crucial, and it will be one of my main agendas in managing the public administration,” he said.

He said this to the media after clocking in as a symbolic gesture marking the start of his duties as the 16th KSN, in Putrajaya on Monday (Aug 12).

When asked about the contents of the upcoming Public Service Premier Message (MAPPA), Shamsul Azri hinted at positive announcements for all civil servants.

“No secrets can be leaked, you have to wait. God willing, there will be good news for all civil servants,” he said.

The 19th MAPPA is expected to take place this Friday (Aug 16) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

Shamsul Azri also called on all public service machinery to cooperate with him in developing the country and providing the best service to the people.

He said civil servants must remain loyal to the government and act as a bulwark for the nation.

“I am confident that with the existing government machinery, we can provide the best services to the people. I also believe that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Malaysia will move towards greater excellence,” he said.

Shamsul Azri, who was the former director-general of the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS), was appointed as KSN effective Monday (Aug 12).

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the US, and has received exposure from several international institutions including the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD). – Bernama
