The Education Ministry’s Digital Education Policy aims to ensure that all students in Malaysia are proficient in digital technology.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the goal can be achieved by empowering educators and school leaders to incorporate digital technology into the learning environment.
“This generation of digitally literate individuals is crucial as the country prepares to confront technological and digital advancements,” she said during the policy launch on Tuesday (Nov 28).
In addition to producing digitally-savvy students, she identified five other key focuses in the policy.
They include developing digitally-competent educators; fostering a visionary digital leadership culture; enhancing infrastructure and infostructure; providing digital education content; and establishing committed strategic partnerships.
The policy was approved by the Cabinet on May 26 and will be effective from 2023 until 2030.
On March 20, Education director-general Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali emphasized that the policy’s direction is towards digital education to offer children more engaging learning resources, which could significantly impact their comprehension.
It was previously reported that the policy would encompass the entire learning ecosystem, extending beyond just schools and higher education institutions to include parents, teachers, infrastructure, infostructure, and the community as a whole.
The policy is centered on the innovative use of digital technology to cultivate a generation that is not only digitally literate, but also digitally fluent.
