The government’s Lestari Niaga@Kuala Lumpur initiative is set to modernize and upgrade stalls, providing traders with improved spaces for their businesses. Chairman of the Kompleks Tun Sambanthan Food Court Hawkers Association, M. Sivakumar, hopes that the upgrading work at the complex will be done promptly to offer the convenience that traders require. Sivakumar specifically mentions the repair of a malfunctioning exhaust fan in the kitchen that discharges smoke and heat, a problem that has persisted for several years.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who launched the Lestari Niaga@Kuala Lumpur D’Medan Selera Madani initiative at Kompleks Tun Sambanthan, has announced an additional allocation of RM10mil to upgrade stalls throughout Kuala Lumpur. The Lestari Niaga@Kuala Lumpur initiative, a government effort to enhance existing facilities for petty traders and hawkers in Kuala Lumpur, aims to create a more conducive and comfortable environment.
Trader P. Indirani, 62, acknowledges that while the exterior of the complex looks pleasant, there are issues with faulty toilets and water problems that need immediate attention. Ali Kasim, the owner of SHZ Claypot Biryani and who has been running his business at the complex since 2015, suggests that the infrastructure surrounding the complex should be improved and parking problems in the area should be resolved. Ali also proposes allowing tourist buses to use the complex as a stop to attract more visitors.
During the launch event, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh stated that this year, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has carried out beautification works at two locations, including D’Medan Selera Madani at Kompleks Tun Sambanthan. The works involved beautification of facades, roof improvements, repainting of buildings and murals, replacement of fans, lights, water pipes, and installation of signboards. He further affirmed DBKL’s commitment to provide comfortable, clean, beautiful, and conducive public amenities for the safety and well-being of residents.
