After 22 years of service with Klang Municipal Council (MPK), Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin has been appointed as the new acting deputy president of Klang.
He took the oath of office in front of council president Noraini Roslan, department heads, and councillors at the Raja Mahadi meeting room in the MPK office.
Elya Marini Darmin, his predecessor, took a one-year unpaid leave in August.
Zaireezal, 47, admitted that he never expected to be given this position.
Prior to this appointment, he had worked in MPK’s Human Resources Department, Social Development Department, and Commissioner of Buildings Department.
“The swearing-in ceremony formalizes the position, but I will serve in an acting capacity while also overseeing the Environmental Services Department,” said Zaireezal, who is a father of four boys.
He holds an honours degree in science (human development).
Talking to StarMetro, Zaireezal mentioned that the town’s cleanliness is the main issue he plans to address.
“Under the guidance of the council president, I aim to implement sustainable methods,” he added.
“We need to reduce the amount of solid waste being disposed of and encourage recycling.
“Creating awareness and enforcing actions are necessary,” he continued, highlighting that MPK has made it mandatory for shop owners to have a 240l bin on wheels for rubbish disposal.
In the meantime, at a full board meeting, Noraini explained that KDEB Waste Management initiated door-to-door rubbish collection in Klang’s villages on October 1.
“MPK requires all villagers to place their rubbish bins in front of their homes to facilitate waste collection and follow the schedule,” she said.
She also conveyed that all village heads were recently briefed on rubbish collection in their areas and the obligation for each household to have their own bin according to MPK’s Garbage Collection, Removal and Disposal By-law 2007.
