KUALA PILAH: Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is serving his second term as Mentri Besar after the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional pact won Saturday’s (Aug 12) polls, wants the newly-elected state unity government to be an example to other states.

The 56-year-old Aminuddin, who will be serving his fourth term as Sikamat assemblyman, said the Negri Sembilan unity government should prove to other states that it could work for the well-being of the people and at the same time, develop the state.

“We know that the nation is watching us (unity government) and we need to prove that this team can be relied upon and can work.

“We need to show we are more balanced and that we are committed to bring changes for the better,” he told reporters after swearing in before state ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

He also took his oath of office, loyalty and secrecy before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan at Istana Besar Seri Menanti near here.

Also present were Tuanku Muhriz’s consort Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud and the Undang (chieftains) of Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol and Rembau.

Aminuddin advised all Pakatan-Barisan assemblymen to go to the ground to start serving their constituents.

He also hoped to announce the state exco line-up in the next few days.

“I hope to meet state Barisan leaders tomorrow or anytime soon to discuss this.

“After we agree, we will take this to be endorsed by the central leadership,” he said, adding that under the state constitution, only 10 excos could be appointed.

Asked if there would be deputy excos, Aminuddin said this had not been discussed.

On who would serve as state Speaker, he said this would be decided after the swearing in ceremony of the assemblymen.

“Till then, the present Speaker (Datuk Zulkefly Mohamad Omar) will continue to hold the post,” he said.

To another question if his administration is prepared to work with Perikatan Nasional assemblymen, Aminuddin said the Opposition assemblymen needed to look into serving their constituents on their own for now.

“We will discuss matters with them later but for now, I think it is best if they serve their constituents on their own first,” he said.

In Saturday’s state polls, the Pakatan-Barisan pact won 31 of the 36 seats in the legislative assembly.

Pakatan won 17 with DAP bagging 11, PKR (five) and Amanah (one).

Umno won 14 under the Barisan ticket.

Perikatan Nasional emerged victorious in five constituencies with PAS winning three and Parti Pribumi Bersatu, two.

In the 2018 polls, Pakatan won 20 and Barisan took the remaining 16.

Born on Jan 2, 1967, in Kampung Pachitan, Port Dickson, Aminuddin and his wife Datin Seri Wan Hasni Wan Yusof, 53, have five children, three boys and two girls.
