ISKANDAR PUTERI: Nazri Abdul Rahman, the newly elected Simpang Jeram assemblyman, has been sworn into office during the Johor state assembly meeting held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail Building, here.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in the presence of Johor State Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi and was witnessed by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and other state assemblymen on Thursday (Sept 14).
Prior to the ceremony, Mohd Puad, who was also the Rengit assemblyman, expressed his condolences to the family of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away on July 23.
In the recently concluded Simpang Jeram by-election, Nazri emerged as the winner with a majority of 3,514 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.
Nazri, who previously held the position of the head of the engineering department of the Muar Municipal Council, retired early to participate in the election.
