MELAKA: Melaka police are currently investigating a case in which a newborn baby was abandoned in a garbage bin at an apartment in Taman Pantai Emas in Melaka. The incident was discovered by a 50-year-old retiree on Wednesday (Aug 23), who was alerted by his son after hearing a strange sound resembling a baby crying coming from the garbage bin. Upon investigation, the retiree found the baby girl wrapped in a plastic bag, discarded head-down amidst piles of rubbish. The police report was lodged at 10.40pm on Monday (Aug 25).

According to Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit, four medical officers from Melaka Hospital were urgently dispatched to the Batang Tiga police station to examine the baby. The officers then brought the newborn back to the hospital for further observation. ACP Christopher also mentioned that the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached when she was found and reassured that she is currently in stable condition. In the hopes of solving the case, ACP Christopher called upon the apartment residents and nearby locals to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

To aid in identifying the abandoned baby girl, ACP Christopher shared a picture of her. He added that there were no visible injuries on the newborn.
