SIBU: An engineer in Kuching fell victim to a scam, losing RM11,530 in an attempt to purchase tickets for the upcoming Taylor Swift concert in Singapore. Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri revealed on July 6 that the 50-year-old engineer came across an advertisement on the Carousell website offering tickets to the popular pop star’s concert. Intrigued by the opportunity to attend the event, the engineer decided to buy three tickets for a total of RM11,530.
Over the course of July 6 and July 7, the engineer transferred the money to an account provided by the suspect, believing it was payment for the tickets. However, things took a turn for the worse when the engineer was no longer able to contact the seller and realized he had been deceived.
As excitement builds for Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated The Eras Tour, which will feature six shows at Singapore’s National Stadium in March next year, tickets have become a hot commodity. This has unfortunately created an opportunity for scammers to exploit eager fans. In a similar incident, scalpers were caught selling tickets to Taylor Swift’s Singapore shows at 10 times the original price.
It is important for concertgoers to be cautious when purchasing tickets from unknown sources and to verify the authenticity of the seller. Authorities advise individuals to use trusted platforms or official ticketing channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
