Former PAS MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has announced his temporary retirement from politics after being excluded by his party in the upcoming Kelantan state election. The son of the late Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, former spiritual leader of PAS, shared this news via a Facebook post on Monday (July 31), stating that it was an extremely challenging moment for him and his mother.
During his announcement, Nik Mohamad Abduh mentioned that he will take a break from politics and focus on fasting and resting. He also expressed his hope that PAS would flourish under effective leadership for the betterment of the country’s future.
This decision was made following PAS’ unexpected move on Thursday (July 27) to exclude Nik Mohamad Abduh from its list of candidates for the upcoming state polls. This decision contradicted previous assurances made by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin on July 11, who had promised that Nik Mohamad Abduh would participate in the election.
The party’s decision has raised suspicions that it was an attempt to suppress the legacy of Nik Mohamad’s late father, who was also a former Kelantan mentri besar and is still greatly respected by many. As a member of the PAS central committee, Nik Mohamad Abduh expressed his disappointment on Friday (July 28) but accepted the party’s decision with an open heart.
