    Nine flood relief centres open in Selangor, Perak

    KUALA LUMPUR: As of 8pm on Sunday (Nov 5) night, nine temporary relief centres have been established in Selangor and Perak to assist those affected by the flooding.

    In Selangor, five relief centres were opened in the Sepang district starting from 3pm, after Sungai Dengkil overflowed due to continuous rainfall. The Sepang district police chief, ACP Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof, reported that a total of 255 victims, including 67 families, have been accommodated in the Kampung Dato Ahmad Razali and Taman Gemilang community halls, as well as the Jenderam Hilir Village Community Management Council Hall (MPKK).

    The number of victims in the Dengkil Community Hall and Sekolah Menengah (SMK) Dengkil relief centres is still being updated by the Social Welfare Department. The flooding has affected several areas, including Kampung Sungai Buah, Jenderam Hilir, Kampung Orang Asli Batu 28 Jenderam Hilir, Kampung Sri Tanjung, and Kampung Chemperai.

    Meanwhile, in Perak, the number of flood victims has decreased to 220 people from 64 families, compared to 272 people from 75 families this morning, according to a statement from the Perak state disaster management committee secretariat. The affected individuals have been placed in four relief centres located in Hilir Perak and Kerian.

    In Hilir Perak, the Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall is accommodating 53 people, while the Teluk Intan Municipal Council Hall is providing shelter for 13 people. In Kerian, 97 individuals are being housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Lobak, and 57 people are taking shelter at the SK Alor relief centre.

    The Irrigation and Drainage Department has reported that Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong is at a dangerous level of 3.96m, while Sungai Kinta at the Tanjung Tualang weir and Sungai Kerian in Selama have reached warning levels of 13.06m and 11.85m respectively. – Bernama
