BATU PAHAT: The remains of Muhammad Fikri Saliman, who tragically lost his life in the water surge incident at Jeram Air Putih, Kemaman, Terengganu, were laid to rest in the Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Parit Kuda, Semerah on July 8th. This solemn event took place at 7am amidst the presence of grieving family members and friends. Prior to the burial, Muhammad Fikri’s body was bathed and wrapped in a shroud, and funeral prayers were held at the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) Terengganu. The body was then transported to Batu Pahat late in the evening on July 7th for the funeral.
According to his brother, Shahrizal Saliman, the discovery of Muhammad Fikri’s body brings some relief to the family. The late Muhammad Fikri, aged 24, had been diligently working two or three jobs to save money for his upcoming wedding, which was scheduled for the end of the year. Shahrizal expressed his grief, saying, “He was very determined, even before he got engaged, he was already working very hard.”
Muhammad Fikri, the youngest of five siblings, was swept away by the water surge during a picnic with the family of his fiancée, Putri Balqis Izzati Abdul Rahman, who was also a victim of the tragedy. His body was recovered by the search party at 9:20am on Friday, a week after the incident occurred. The search operation now focuses on finding the remaining victim, Putri Nor Fatin Karim, aged 14.
