According to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Penang does not have any intention to implement an enactment that specifically outlines a code of conduct for “former chief ministers”.

Chow emphasized that anyone who has held the position of chief minister should already understand their responsibility to fully support the current democratically elected government.

He stated, “This includes showing respect for all decisions, directions, and leadership styles of the current government, for the benefit of the people and the overall sovereignty of Penang,” in response to a question from Lee Khai Loon (PH-Machang Bubok) on Tuesday (Nov 28).

Lee had inquired about the possibility of enacting guidelines to ensure that the conduct of former chief ministers aligns with the objectives of the state government.

He also sought clarification on the role of former chief ministers.

Chow expressed that the state government is open to receiving feedback and criticism from anyone, as long as it is done through proper and official channels.

He stated that criticism is viewed as part of the checks and balances that contribute to improving service delivery to the people.

However, he added that any attempt to interfere with and influence government decisions should be avoided, as it could hinder the government’s plans and efforts to help the people of Penang.
