SPNB has stated that the prices of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) will not increase despite the Sales and Service Tax (SST) rising to 8% on March 1. The Acting CEO, Zahanuddin Kamarudin, explained that RMR projects do not include consultation costs, which are often present in private developer projects.

He elaborated that other developers might face price hikes due to the need to cover consulting expenses like engineers and architects impacted by the new SST rate. SPNB has directed contractors to speed up RMR construction to cut costs and maintain house prices.

Zahanuddin made these comments at a press conference during the Urban Community Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility programme in Taman Metro Maya on March 2. Since 2020, SPNB has been offering RMR homes to the B40 group at RM75,000 each, with a RM20,000 government subsidy.

These houses come with three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and two bathrooms, covering around 750 square feet. Additionally, SPNB has set aside RM160,000 for the sustainability and CSR programme in various states, including Perak, this year. The programme focuses on promoting social well-being and community harmony.

Zahanuddin mentioned that activities include health talks, sharing information from government agencies, and more. SPNB aims to enhance the quality of life for residents through such initiatives. The commitment to keeping RMR prices stable despite the SST increase reflects a dedication to affordable housing for the B40 group.

By avoiding added consultation costs, SPNB can maintain affordability for prospective homeowners. The collaboration with the Housing and Local Government Ministry underscores the government’s support for initiatives that benefit communities across the country.

The assurance that RMR prices will not rise following the SST hike provides relief to potential buyers facing economic challenges. SPNB’s proactive approach to cost-cutting and efficient construction practices ensures that affordable housing remains accessible to those in the B40 group.

Overall, SPNB’s efforts to prioritize affordability and social responsibility in housing initiatives demonstrate a commitment to serving the needs of disadvantaged communities. The sustainability and CSR programme reflects SPNB’s holistic approach to promoting community well-being and harmony.

Through partnerships with relevant ministries and stakeholders, SPNB continues to make a difference in the lives of Malaysians by providing affordable housing solutions and supporting community development initiatives.
