Anthony Loke, the Transport Minister, has stated that no air service licence (ASL) will be given to MYAirline until all refunds are made to its customers and former staff are dealt with. Loke also mentioned a planned meeting with MYAirline and the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) to discuss the airline’s current situation. The Transport Minister shared this information during a 2024 New Year Mandate to the staff of the Transport Ministry on Jan 12.

A recent Bernama report, citing sources, revealed that MYAirline Sdn Bhd had signed a sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with an investor from the Middle East and applied for a conditional ASL from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

“The ministry will be meeting with MYAirline later today to understand their proposal and current status,” said Loke. “Before considering an ASL for MYAirline, certain conditions must be met. Firstly, they must ensure all refunds have been made, and any prior agreements with former staff have been fulfilled. Without meeting these conditions, an ASL will not be considered for the airline.”

Loke also emphasized that all safety and application terms must be adhered to, including the requirement for the airline to be 51% owned by Malaysians.

MYAirline suspended operations on Oct 12, 2023, leaving approximately 125,000 passengers and 900 employees in limbo. The reimbursement process for passengers is still ongoing, and Mavcom reported that as of Jan 8, 2023, 4,304 consumers were assisted with refunds through the chargeback process.
