Supreme council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi has stated that Umno does not require an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to discuss fresh party polls. He emphasized that the party polls had already been settled on March 18, covering positions from the branch level to the vice presidents’ posts. Mohd Puad highlighted that new faces have already been incorporated into the vice president and division chief positions. Hence, he deemed an EGM unnecessary for the purpose of party polls. This statement was made on his official Facebook page on Thursday (Aug 24).
Mohd Puad suggested that Umno should instead conduct a thorough post-mortem at every level, believing that this approach would provide more focus. Earlier, Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh had expressed the need for fresh internal elections to rejuvenate the party following its unsatisfactory performance in the recent six state polls. On August 12, Umno only managed to secure 19 out of the 108 seats it contested in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, Penang, and Negri Sembilan.
