PETALING JAYA: Dr. Zaliha Mustafa stated that despite the rise in Covid-19 cases globally, no new Covid-19 variants have been found in Malaysia.
The increase in cases at the end of each year is a trend seen in Malaysia and other countries, according to the Health Minister.
Dr. Zaliha added, “Most Covid-19 cases in Malaysia are mild and do not require hospital treatment.”
She mentioned that the Omicron variant with subvariants is still circulating in Malaysia, known for its high transmission rate but not causing severe cases.
Despite the uptick in cases, Dr. Zaliha assured that the current situation in Malaysia is manageable and does not overwhelm healthcare facilities. The ministry is prepared for possible eventualities.
She encouraged the public to practice self-care measures, such as maintaining personal hygiene and wearing a face mask if experiencing symptoms.
For those with worsening symptoms, seeking medical advice and receiving Paxlovid antiviral treatment at the nearest health clinic was advised for those who tested positive for Covid-19 and are at high risk.
People were also encouraged to receive their primary dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at health clinics to reduce the risk of transmission.
The Health Minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to monitoring the Covid-19 situation and variants and urged the public not to spread unverified news to avoid confusion and public unrest.
