The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) covers the cost of resurfacing roads up to the entranceways of houses, and homeowners should not have to pay contractors for this work. This clarification comes in response to complaints from residents who claimed that contractors were imposing charges for driveway resurfacing. MBPJ emphasized that the issue involves an external contractor, not one appointed by the council.
Prior to any road resurfacing, MBPJ issues a notice to the affected residents. Section 3(3.1) of this notice explicitly states that residents should not pay anyone who offers resurfacing services at the entrances of their homes and takes advantage of the situation. In a statement on Wednesday (Oct 4), MBPJ said, “There are no charges imposed on homeowners for the work done by contractors appointed by MBPJ, and the entranceways to their homes will be resurfaced for free by the council.”
The council encourages residents to report any incidents of contractors falsely claiming to represent the council and requesting payment for services. They should contact the police and notify the MBPJ complaints unit at 03-7954 2020 or via email at [email protected].
