PUTRAJAYA: The Veterinary Services Department has stated that they have yet to receive any reports of a shortage of chicken supply at the farm level. This comes following claims that the shortage has caused an increase in the price of chicken. Additionally, the department has not received any reports of poultry disease outbreaks that have led to mass deaths.
“Therefore, the Veterinary Services Department asks the public not to panic”, stated the department in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 16).
The department made these assertions in response to a news article titled ‘Bekalan kurang punca harga ayam naik – Pembekal’ (Shortage of supply causes prices of chicken to rise – Suppliers), which was published on Tuesday (Aug 15).
According to the report, the shortage of chicken supply a few days ago was the primary reason why the price of chicken in the market had increased from RM9 to RM9.28.
The Veterinary Services Department would like to bring to the public’s attention that any shortage of supply can be reported directly to the department. Reports can be made through the nearest district veterinary offices or state Veterinary Services Department. The department can also be reached via email at [email protected] or through phone at 03-8870 2000. – Bernama
