Police in Kuala Lumpur have not yet received a formal request for a planned rally by Perikatan Nasional Youth. The rally is to protest Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on 47 corruption charges. Kuala Lumpur City Police Chief, Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, confirmed on Monday (Sept 11) that no official application has been submitted.
Perikatan Youth chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, announced on Sunday (Sept 10) that the movement plans to hold a peaceful assembly in front of a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Sept 16). This is part of their “Save Malaysia” campaign.
On Sept 4, the Kuala Lumpur High Court Judge, Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, granted the prosecution’s application for a DNAA. The application included 11 reasons. A DNAA allows the accused to face trial for the same charges in the future if the prosecution decides to do so.
Despite this news, the rally organizers have not yet officially applied for permission from the police. It remains to be seen whether the rally will take place as planned.
