SEREMBAN: Road Transport Department (JPJ) personnel confiscated a motorcycle from a food delivery rider in Nilai due to the lack of valid road tax and insurance coverage for the vehicle.
In a statement, JPJ explained that the seizure was necessary to ensure the safety of the rider and other road users. The decision was made after a video clip, lasting 17 seconds, went viral on social media, showing the rider walking away with the food basket after his motorcycle was seized by JPJ officers on September 12.
The JPJ emphasized that the reason for seizing the motorcycle was to protect the rider’s safety and that of others on the road, as the bike did not have insurance coverage. The department takes such violations seriously and will take appropriate action to ensure the safety of road users, it added.
During the operation, which took place along Jalan Persiaran Negeri, JPJ officers also took action against other motorists who had violated relevant laws. However, many netizens criticized the JPJ for confiscating the delivery rider’s motorcycle, suggesting that they should have been more considerate and given a warning instead.
