PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department has clarified that it has not issued any special approvals under the Recalibration Programme (RTK) 2.0 to foreigners with illegal status after December 31, 2022. Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh made this statement on Wednesday (September 6), emphasizing that such approvals would contradict the government’s policy when the RTK 2.0 programme was introduced on January 27 of this year.
He further explained that the policy clearly states that only foreign nationals who were in the illegal status category until December 31, 2022, are eligible for consideration under the RTK 2.0 programme. He also advised the public to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause confusion or unsettlement among the citizens.
The Immigration Department released this statement in response to a viral WhatsApp voice note message that claimed the department was issuing special approval under the RTK 2.0 programme for foreigners with illegal status after December 31, 2022. The voice note also alleged that these special approvals were limited to only 5,000 applicants who entered the country in 2023.
Dismissing these claims, Ruslin firmly denied the existence of any such approvals and urged the public not to be deceived by the tactics employed by agents and middlemen. The department aims to prevent any misunderstanding or false hopes among the public.
This clarification comes as the government seeks to maintain transparency and uphold the rules set in place for the RTK 2.0 programme. It is important to ensure that those who are eligible for the programme are accurately identified and given the appropriate assistance.
The RTK 2.0 programme was implemented as a means to address and rectify the issue of illegal immigrants residing in Malaysia. By offering these individuals an opportunity to recalibrate their immigration status, the government aims to streamline and regulate the immigration process while safeguarding national security interests.
As part of the programme, eligible foreign nationals who were in illegal status prior to December 31, 2022, are required to follow the set guidelines and procedures in order to obtain legal status and remain in the country. This includes fulfilling specific criteria and providing the necessary supporting documents.
While the RTK 2.0 programme encourages and facilitates the regularization of illegal immigrants, it is crucial to adhere to the established policies and avoid fraudulent activities. The Immigration Department remains committed to maintaining the integrity and fairness of the programme, ensuring that it benefits those who genuinely require assistance.
Any claims or information regarding additional approvals for foreigners with illegal status after December 31, 2022, should be disregarded, as clarified by the director-general. It is essential to rely on accurate and official statements to avoid confusion or misinformation.
In conclusion, the Immigration Department stresses that no special approvals have been granted to foreign nationals with illegal status after December 31, 2022, under the RTK 2.0 programme. The public is advised to disregard any misleading claims and rely on official sources for accurate information.
