King Harald of Norway has been hospitalized in Malaysia due to an infection, as confirmed by the Norwegian royal household on Tuesday (Feb 27).

At 87 years old, the monarch is currently on a private trip to the South-East Asian country.

The royal household stated, “His Majesty the King has fallen ill during his holiday stay in Malaysia, and is hospitalised there, with an infection. The King receives good care from both Malaysian and Norwegian medical personnel.”

Since 1991, King Harald has served as Norway’s ceremonial head of state, making him Europe’s oldest living monarch. In recent years, he has been admitted to the hospital multiple times due to infections and has also undergone heart surgery.

In King Harald’s absence, Crown Prince Haakon is currently carrying out his duties as the acting head of state.

This is not the first time that the King has had to deal with health issues during his reign. Despite these challenges, he has continued to fulfill his responsibilities to the best of his ability.

The Norwegian people, along with people worldwide, are sending their well wishes and hoping for a speedy recovery for King Harald.

During this time, the royal family is requesting privacy and understanding from the public as they focus on the King’s recovery.

As updates on King Harald’s condition become available, the royal household will continue to provide information to the media and the public.

This latest health scare serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities that come with old age, even for those in positions of power and influence.
