KOTA BHARU: According to the National Registration Department (NRD), a total of 93,455 applications have been received under the “Menyemai Kasih Rakyat” (Mekar) programme through 5,273 outreach programmes from 2020 to March 15 this year. The programme’s main aim is to ensure that all eligible residents in the country have valid identification documents.
NRD director-general, Badrul Hisham Alias, mentioned that the three states with the highest number of applications are Putrajaya, Perak, and Selangor. Following the Mekar “Santunan Kasih Warga Emas” programme at Rumah Seri Kenangan in Pengkalan Chepa, he highlighted the department’s efforts to reach Orang Asli settlements and facilitate identity card and birth registration applications for them.
He also noted that NRD has to take into account various factors before entering these areas, such as weather conditions and distance. During the event, Badrul Hisham personally handed over identity documents to two disabled individuals: Muhammad Ruslan Ali, 62, from Tumpat, and Ahmad Hariz Rosli, 12, from Kubang Kerian. – Bernama
