Sarawak’s deputy police commissioner Datuk Ibrahim Darus has revealed that road accidents and fatalities in the state have surged in the first 11 months of this year.

Ibrahim expressed concern over the increasing number of road accidents, stating that it does not reflect an improvement in road user behavior.

He emphasized that the rising statistics of road accidents, particularly from January to November, are alarming, warranting immediate attention and action.

Sarawak has experienced a worrying trend of escalating road accidents and fatal incidents, which calls for a reevaluation of road safety measures and the conduct of road users.

Despite efforts to promote responsible road usage, the significant increase in road accidents in 2023 indicates that more stringent measures are needed to address this issue.

Ibrahim stressed the urgency of addressing the underlying factors contributing to the spike in road accidents and fatalities, underscoring the importance of immediate intervention to reverse this concerning trend.

He urged for a collective effort from authorities and the public to work towards reducing road accidents and creating a safer environment for all road users in Sarawak.

The deputy police commissioner’s remarks serve as a call to action for a concerted effort to curb the rising number of road accidents and fatalities in the state.

It is imperative for all stakeholders to prioritize road safety and take proactive measures to mitigate the risks associated with road usage in Sarawak.

With a collaborative and comprehensive approach, it is possible to address the issue of increasing road accidents and foster a culture of responsible road behavior in the state.
