SEKINCHAN: The political landscape can change as swiftly as the weather. A perfect example of this is seen in the recent turn of events, where Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has publicly praised his former rival, incumbent assemblyman Ng Suee Lim.

In a surprising twist, Jamal, who was born and raised in Sekinchan, acknowledged the significant development that has taken place under YB Ng Suee Lim’s leadership. “I can personally attest that Sekinchan has undergone remarkable progress thanks to YB Ng Suee Lim,” Jamal stated.

Reflecting on the past, Jamal fondly recalled the fierce political rivalry he shared with Ng. “We used to verbally attack each other during election campaigns,” he confessed. “During the last general election, YB Ng strategically placed billboards that left no space for Barisan’s posters. In response, I put up our posters overlapping his billboards,” Jamal added with a chuckle.

Ng, in his speech, also acknowledged their history of animosity. “I used to criticize him during my ceramah, and he did the same to me. He would often disrupt my campaign material during elections,” Ng revealed. However, both politicians have decided to put their differences aside and forge ahead for the betterment of their constituents and the nation. “Why should we continue fighting due to our past? We have chosen to leave it behind and focus on building a better future for our next generation,” Ng emphasized.

Jamal further expressed his satisfaction with the current Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, stating that Amirudin is a superior leader compared to his predecessor, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali. “There is no longer any reason for me to protest outside the state government building,” Jamal reasoned. He humorously recalled his past protests, including one where he appeared clad only in a towel and another where he brought a coffin during Azmin’s tenure as Mentri Besar.

Jamal concluded by stating that both Barisan and Pakatan have decided to leave the past behind and focus on the future. He also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, who was present at the event, for resolving the defamation lawsuit she had filed against him. The lawsuit, which alleged mishandling of funds, was settled out of court after Jamal issued a public apology to Yeo in early 2021.
