10,000 SPM Candidates in Malaysia Register to Resit Examinations
SELAYANG: Around 10,000 out of the 30,000 candidates who did not sit for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 papers have now registered to resit the examinations, according to Fadhlina Sidek, the Education Minister. This surge in registrations signifies that these individuals still have a keen interest in pursuing further education.
During the Top Sijil Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (STPM) Students Award Ceremony held in Selayang on Thursday (July 13), the Education Minister highlighted the increasing number of applicants. She shared, “10,000 of them have submitted applications to resit the SPM.”
Regarding the remaining 20,000 candidates, Fadhlina mentioned that efforts are currently being made by the ministry to track their whereabouts and gather complete information about their circumstances. Some possibilities include employment, illness, or other social issues that may have prevented them from sitting for the papers.
Recognizing the importance of providing a second chance to these students, the Education Ministry extended the registration deadline for private SPM candidates by an additional two weeks until June 30. This decision aligns with the ministry’s commitment to addressing the dropout issue and upholding the call from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to give these students an opportunity for redemption.
