KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has jokingly invited Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to join him in riding a bull in Spain. The Agriculture and Food Security Minister responded to a comment made by the Marang MP, who criticized him for riding a bull instead of addressing the local beef price issue.
Mohamad stated in the Dewan Rakyat on Sept 11, “In Bachok, I rode a bull. I want to invite Marang – let’s go to Spain one day and ride a ‘matador’ bull. Only brave men dare to ride bulls.”
During a parliamentary session on Sept 13, the president of PAS, Abdul Hadi Awang, urged Mohamad to focus on resolving the meat price issue instead of riding bulls.
Mohamad previously mentioned that his ministry is committed to ensuring food security across the country, regardless of the ruling political coalition in any given state. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and the need for sufficient rice for the nation.
Additionally, Mohamad addressed allegations made by Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid, who claimed that the price of local white rice had increased. Mohamad clarified that the price of white rice has remained at RM26 per kilogram, and any increase in price is attributed to imported white rice. He urged Rosol to listen attentively and communicate accurate information to his constituents.
Despite the questioning, Mohamad stated that he was not angry, jokingly remarking that he is accustomed to being part of the Opposition. This prompted laughter from fellow MPs.
The current parliamentary session is a special six-day sitting from Sept 11-19, focused on debating the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan.
