IPOH: A 63-year-old Orang Asli woman was trampled to death by an elephant near a durian farm in Kampung Bal, RPS Kemar at Gerik.
The Gerik OCPD, Supt Zulkifli Mahmood, stated that investigations revealed that the victim had gone to the farm to pick durians when the incident occurred between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday (Aug 13).
“We received a report at about 5.30pm. The victim was brought to the RPS Kemar health clinic where she was pronounced dead,” he said in a statement.
An autopsy conducted on the victim at the Gerik Hospital forensics department on Monday (Aug 14) at around 9am confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest.
Supt Zulkifli expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and mentioned that her body has been claimed by them.
He also advised the community in RPS Kemar to remain vigilant while conducting agricultural activities in the area.
“They should inform the authorities if they have any information about the presence of wildlife in the area so that appropriate actions can be taken,” he added.
