In Perak, a total of 10,718 fire and rescue cases were recorded from January to September this year, compared to 9,940 cases throughout 2022.
According to Sayani Saidon, the director of Perak Fire and Rescue Department, the increase in cases is mainly due to the frequent occurrences of fire in private residences and business premises.
Sayani emphasized the importance of awareness and basic knowledge for the people, especially in terms of saving themselves in case of a fire. He mentioned that every residence or premises should have fire extinguishers as a preventive measure to control and prevent the spread of fires.
During the monthly gathering at the Meru Jaya headquarters, Sayani also celebrated the promotion of 19 firefighters from Grade KB 19 to Grade KB 22 and six officers from Grade KB 24 to Grade 22.
Furthermore, Sayani highlighted that 265 areas nationwide have been identified as potential flood hotspots by the end of this year.
The Fire and Rescue Department has made preparations to face potential floods, especially in terms of mobilizing assistance for operations and logistics.
Sayani stated that the engineering and operations divisions have been instructed to regularly test and assess the usage level of equipment provided, such as boats, utility vehicles, and other safety equipment.
