KUALA LUMPUR: At the Skudai toll plaza in Johor Baru, an integrated operation led to the issuance of 166 summonses for various traffic offences, along with the detention of several foreigners.
According to Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, the most common traffic offence was speeding, with 88 summonses issued. This was followed by offences such as not having a driving license (11 summonses), expired road tax (12 summonses), illegal number plates (37 summonses), not having a fire extinguisher (6 summonses), not having a security triangle (3 summonses), using HID lights (5 summonses), and not having side mirrors (4 summonses).
“The operation took place on Wednesday (Feb 28) and involved over 100 personnel from various agencies, including the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Immigration Department,” he stated on Thursday (Feb 29).
In addition to the traffic summonses issued, the JPJ also issued 253 summonses, including to eight lorry drivers who were caught overloading, Comm Mohd Azman mentioned.
“The Immigration Department detained a total of 27 undocumented foreigners during the operation,” he added, providing a breakdown of nationalities – 11 Indonesians, 12 Indians, two Bangladeshis, and one individual each from Pakistan and Myanmar.
Comm Mohd Azman emphasized that the operation, which took place between 8pm and 10.30pm, aimed to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and to deter criminal activities.
“We are committed to conducting similar operations in the future, working in collaboration with other agencies to promote safe driving habits and prevent road-related crimes,” he reiterated.
