Health enforcement officers nationwide have issued a total of 1,639 compound notices to food stall operators at Ramadan bazaars as of Friday, according to the Health Ministry. These compounds, issued under Section 32B of the Food Act 1983, amount to RM163,900. Operations have been carried out by state Health Departments at 1,299 bazaars across the country since the beginning of Ramadan on March 12.
The main focus of these operations has been to ensure cleanliness and food safety standards are upheld to guarantee that the food prepared and sold at bazaars is safe and compliant with health regulations. A total of 43,304 stalls and premises have been inspected, resulting in the closure of three eateries found to be in violation of the regulations.
The Health Ministry has completed investigations into 20 out of 29 complaints received about food sold at the bazaars as of Friday, with ongoing probes into the remaining nine. Consumers are reminded to prioritize food safety during Ramadan by choosing clean and hygienic food and premises. The ministry also advises stall operators to maintain clean handling practices and personal hygiene when preparing food.
For any concerns regarding food safety, consumers can visit the Food Safety and Quality Programme Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bkkmhq, or seek further information. It is crucial for both food stall operators and consumers to take responsibility for ensuring food safety and hygiene during the Ramadan period. By working together, we can uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in our bazaars.
