The Mentri Besar of Johor, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, revealed that there were 2,616 fraud cases in Johor from January to September this year, resulting in losses amounting to RM166.3mil. These figures highlight that fraud is the most commonly reported commercial crime in the state.
Datuk Onn Hafiz listed various types of fraud cases reported, including non-existent loans and investments, fake job offers, phone scams, online purchases, and impersonation scams. He expressed his concern regarding the increasing prevalence of fraud and emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive measures to combat this issue.
In a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 23), following the Johor State Security Working Committee Meeting No. 2, 2023, Datuk Onn Hafiz urged the residents of Johor to exercise caution and remind each other not to be easily manipulated by fraudsters. He stressed the importance of finding effective solutions to tackle the rising number of fraud cases.
Datuk Onn Hafiz also expressed confidence in the credibility of the security agencies in Johor and the measures they have implemented to maintain the state’s peace and security. He assured the public that any threats from the land, sea, and air are constantly under control.
“May the Johor Selamat Agenda be able to be coordinated with all security agencies, allowing the state to achieve its goal of becoming a developed state by 2030. Insya-Allah,” he added, echoing the state’s aspiration to be a developed state within the next decade.
