    KUALA LUMPUR: The “Respect Traffic Laws” operation in Kuala Lumpur has resulted in a total of 26,506 traffic summonses being issued for various offences since July 3. According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, as of Sunday (July 9), traffic obstruction was the most common offence, with 18,931 summonses issued. Other offences included driving or riding on pedestrian pathways, locals without a driving licence, running a red light, using fancy number plates, stopping in the yellow box, and miscellaneous offences. Comm Mohd Shuhaily revealed this information during a press conference held after attending the KL police monthly assembly on Wednesday (July 12).

    To carry out this operation effectively, a total of 800 personnel and officers have been deployed, and the operation will continue until July 31. Its main objective is to instill discipline among road users and take strict action against traffic regulation infringements. So far, 86 individuals have been detained for various traffic offences, and authorities have seized 96 motorcycles, two cars, and a lorry.

    Comm Mohd Shuhaily expressed that the KL police have received positive feedback from the public regarding this special operation, and they will continuously work on improving it. He emphasized the importance of changing the habits and behavior of road users to make them more responsible, and he plans to discuss this matter with the people of Kuala Lumpur to find effective solutions. Traffic offenders should not expect any compromise from the police, as they will take swift action against those who violate traffic laws. Comm Mohd Shuhaily urged road users to pay attention to road signs for their own safety.
