BATU PAHAT: A wholesale company here has gotten into trouble with the law for storing 4,505kg of subsidised cooking oil in an unauthorised area.
Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said checks were conducted at the premises in Jalan Minyak Beku at 2pm on Tuesday (June 25) based on a public complaint.
“During the raid, we met the owner of the company, a man in his 30s, who led us to the storehouse where the packets of subsidised cooking oil were found.
“Although the company had the licence to store controlled goods, it violated the regulations by storing the subsidised cooking oil at an address that was not registered under the licence,” she said in a statement on Wednesday (June 26).
She added that the 4,505 packets of 1kg cooking oil, of various brands, were worth RM11,262.50, and were seized during the raid.
The company owner would also be called up to assist in the investigation under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supply Act 1961 for storing controlled goods at an unlicenced storehouse, said Lilis Saslinda.
If convicted, the company could be fined a maximum of RM2mil for the first offence and maximum of RM5mil for a repeated offence; while the individual could be fined not more than RM1mil for the first offence or a maximum imprisonment of three years, or both.
