KUALA LUMPUR: As of this week, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay announced that over 40 police boats have been deployed for flood mitigation efforts. He stated, “The situation has improved slightly. There are still five states that are still facing floods.” According to him, the police have also mobilized 750 policemen, 47 boats, 32 lorries, 59 4×4 vehicles, and six ambulances.

Speaking at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Friday (Dec 29), he indicated that the resources were allocated based on the current situation.

On a different note, the deputy IGP emphasized that the police were now concentrating on dismantling the leadership of drug syndicates and their senior members. He pointed out, “That is the difference between past drug operations and what we had achieved recently. We will aim for the heads to ensure that we can overcome the issue of drug distribution and smuggling.” He also mentioned that he was unable to disclose details that could impact ongoing investigations and operations.

Earlier, a special operation on Dec 25 led to the arrest of 10 individuals, including a 40-year-old patron of a non-governmental organization, for their alleged involvement in a drug syndicate. The “Datuk” of the NGO was believed to be the leader of the syndicate, which had been operating in Sabah for over eight years.
