The government aims to construct 5,045 units of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) this year, following the approval of an additional RM123 million allocation in August. The Local Government Development Minister, Nga Kor Ming, announced that 4,250 houses have already been built by Syarikat Perumahan Nasional Bhd (SPNB), surpassing the target of 3,410 set for this year. Nga attributed the increased allocation to the Unity Government’s concern and the Malaysia Madani initiative’s objective of offering affordable homes.
According to Nga, the original budget had allocated RM358 million for the project. However, an additional injection of funds worth RM123 million has brought the total to RM481 million nationwide. These remarks were made during the key handover ceremony for completed RMR houses to three recipients in Kampung Chemomoi on September 21.
Nga also highlighted that the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Mid-Term Review (MTR) will address various governance aspects of the RMR project to ensure that companies involved meet their targets without any leakages or irregularities. Nga expressed confidence that the people now appreciate and understand the struggles of the Unity Government, emphasizing their commitment to defending the fate of all Malaysians, regardless of their race or background.
“The Unity Government is focused on practicing politics that unites all races. The unity of our multi-racial society is the key to success… it is our responsibility to embrace this new politics that unites the people of our country,” Nga stated.
In response to allegations that the government is employing a “barbaric politics” approach by not allocating development funds for opposition-held parliamentary constituencies, Nga, who is also the DAP vice-chairman, denied these claims. He clarified that the allocations are channeled directly to relevant parties, such as the District and Land Office and local authorities.
The issue was raised by several Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders during the machinery launch and the announcement of its candidate for the Pelangai state by-election.
