Following a joint operation at the Baiduri Apartments in Bandar Tasik Kesuma, Beranang, the Immigration Department detained 561 undocumented foreigners. Director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh stated that those apprehended were from several countries and ranged in age from three months to 55 years old.
The operation began at around 11pm on Friday, January 19, after the department received complaints about undocumented foreigners living in the area. Of the 752 foreigners inspected, 561 were found to be undocumented.
Ruslin Jusoh reported that despite attempts by some foreigners to evade capture, the area was effectively cordoned off by the raiding team. He also noted that about 80% of the residents in the apartments were foreigners, leading to overcrowding and poor living conditions that affected the surrounding area.
The department identified various offenses committed by the undocumented foreigners, including lacking personal identification documents, overstaying, and other Immigration Act violations.
All 561 individuals were transported to the Immigration Depot in Bukit Jalil for further investigation. The operation involved 455 Immigration officers, 60 General Operations Force (GOF) personnel, 12 National Registration Department officers, and five personnel from the Civil Defence Force.
Immigration deputy director-general (Operation) Jafri Embok Taha, Immigration deputy director-general (Control) Datuk Ken Anak Leben, Immigration Enforcement director Mohd Jasmi Mohd Juwahir, Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin, and Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff were all present during the operation.
