The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has confiscated goods worth more than RM7.2mil in enforcement operations this year, according to the ministry’s state director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo. The 1,277 cases for various offences resulted in compound notices of over RM1mil from January until Dec 23.
The enforcement team has been conducting operations and surveillance at the state’s supermarkets, wet markets, and sundry stores. About 90% of the cases were based on the ministry’s data and surveillance, while the remaining 10% were based on information provided by members of the public. Lilis made these statements after launching the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme at Jaya Grocer Austin Heights on Saturday (Dec 23).
Lilis also revealed that this was the third time the price control scheme had been organized in Johor after the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Deepavali celebrations. The fourth price control was for the coming Christmas festive season and was enforced from Dec 23 to 27. In addition, 1,136 inspections were conducted at all supermarkets, factories, wholesalers, and even mini markets from January until Dec 23 this year.
A total of 57 cases were recorded and a compound worth RM6,700 was issued for offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. The price control scheme was introduced to ensure that traders sell controlled items under the designated price and adhere to the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020.
