According to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the Central Database Hub (Padu) has been operating smoothly and will not be suspended despite concerns raised about its safety. He assured the public that the system is working smoothly and any issues that have been raised were swiftly resolved. The safety aspect is being constantly monitored to ensure the system’s effectiveness.
Fahmi addressed the issue of the MyKad number being used to change a Padu user’s password, stating that it was resolved within an hour of it being brought to their attention. He highlighted that the Economy Ministry confirmed the issue was resolved quickly, demonstrating the feasibility of using the Padu system.
Former deputy international trade minister Ong Kian Ming had suggested the suspension of Padu due to flaws in the way it collects information, but Fahmi dismissed this suggestion and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing any issues.
Padu, which was recently launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is a government database containing detailed individual and household profiles of all citizens in the country. Its primary goal is to help the government deliver targeted assistance, especially in relation to accumulated federal subsidies for petrol.

Despite concerns, Fahmi reported that 230,000 individuals have successfully registered since Padu was launched on Tuesday, with 71% completing the e-KYC validation process.
