KUANTAN: The Pahang state government aims to improve its position as an exporter, climbing from sixth to fifth place among all states. State Felda, cooperatives, and entrepreneurs committee chairman Razali Kassim (pic) believes this is an attainable goal due to Pahang’s economic performance and its collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and other relevant agencies. “Matrade is dedicated to assisting Pahang in developing entrepreneurs involved in micro, small, and medium enterprises, which aligns with the state government’s objective of becoming one of the leading exporting states, particularly in the food sector. Matrade established its office here last year,” said Razali during the Pahang Export Day 2023 event. He added that Pahang’s export value of RM32mil from last year should be increased with the participation of more entrepreneurs from the state.
Pahang Export Day 2023, held on Tuesday (Oct 3), was opened by Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, represented by Razali. The event, sponsored by Exim Bank Malaysia and Fusionex Group, was also attended by Matrade deputy executive officer (exporter development) Abu Bakar Yusof and Pahang Economic Planning Division secretary Tengku Datuk Nor Asmaliza Ku Lah. Currently, 3,124 entrepreneurs across the state have registered with Matrade, which provides opportunities for them to participate in guidance and development programs.
Razali encourages more entrepreneurs to register with Matrade to allow the agency to identify potential products for export and educate them on the necessary product specifications to meet importing countries’ standards. Matrade aims to create a larger exporting community in Malaysia by equipping entrepreneurs with extensive knowledge of export-related matters. Abu Bakar emphasizes the challenge of meeting the demands of importing countries and suggests starting with a small number of products, supported by relevant ecosystem players, to expand production overseas. He stresses the importance of preparing entrepreneurs for the international market and mentions that Matrade already has over 200 export destinations. Continuous training and promotions are necessary to support export sector development initiatives, Abu Bakar adds. – Bernama
