An annual allocation of RM79.4mil will be dedicated to providing group insurance coverage for active tour guides, boat operators, and mountain guides in Pahang, starting next month.
Leong Yu Man, the Chairman of the State Unity, Tourism, and Culture Committee, stated that a total of 794 individuals will be eligible for the insurance protection scheme, which amounts to RM100,000 per year for three years until October 2026.
She mentioned that the Pahang Tourist Guides’ Association, the National Park Tourist Guides’ Association, the Pahang Mountain Guides’ Association, Persatuan Gabungan Perkhidmatan Bot Taman Negara, and boat operators in Pulau Tioman are among the beneficiaries of this scheme.
“The scheme, which costs RM120 per year, aims to provide protection to tourism industry players who face the risk of accidents while on duty,” she said.
“Additionally, we hope that it will alleviate the burden of ecotourism industry players and motivate them to enhance their services,” she stated in a Friday (Oct 27) statement reported by Bernama.
The insurance protection card was unveiled by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail on Thursday (Oct 26) in Genting Highlands, prior to a state executive council meeting.
As per Leong, the scheme guarantees recipients up to RM100,000 in case of accidental death or permanent disability, RM2,500 in accident-caused medical expenses, and a daily cash allowance of RM50 for hospitalization up to 30 days.
