KUANTAN: According to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP) has collected nearly RM3mil in compound fines for encroachment activities and illegal mining since 2022. In the first eight months of this year, UPNP has handled 96 cases, resulting in the confiscation of 229 machinery units and exhibits, as well as the collection of RM1.4mil in compounds. Last year, UPNP recorded RM1.5mil in compounds from 133 cases, involving the seizure of 177 machinery units and exhibits. The government of Pahang emphasizes that prosecutions have been carried out for all offenses to deter the encroachment of government land in the state.

In response to a question by Datuk Seri Shafik Fauzan Sharif (BN-Inderapura), Wan Rosdy stated that, since 2021, a total of 36 cases of illegal gold mining have been eradicated in Lipis. This has indirectly led to the approval of the Mukim Kechau Minor Mining Scheme in Lipis in 2022, which has contributed RM1.2mil in mineral royalties to the state government as of August this year. – Bernama
